Program Overview

Billions of people worldwide need help of the sort that only an existential wellness coach can provide. If you are motivated to help and want a career path like no other, if you have entrepreneurial spirit and an existential bent, existential wellness coaching is the right path for you.

The gravest challenges that human beings face today, alongside meeting their survival needs, are existential challenges. These include finding or creating meaningful work, dealing with the existential angst arising from ever-increasing fascism and climate decay, making sense of truth and falsity in an age of untrustworthy information, feeling connected to other human beings in a time of glancing relationships, making sense of life purpose and meaning, and the many other existential challenges facing every contemporary person.

These challenges need addressing. People today need new answers, strategies, and solutions. As an existential wellness coach, you can help your clients answer these pressing questions and create new strategies for living. You can help them pull together ideas from different points on the map—from cognitive psychology, existential philosophy, life coaching, mind/body practices, and alternative traditions—into a personal, coherent philosophy of life that will help them live more purposeful, passionate, and productive lives. You will make a real difference in their lives.

These deep dilemmas facing people today are often labeled as mental disorders; and the consequences of these dilemmas, like profound sadness and chronic anxiety, regularly receive psychiatric labels and are met with psychiatric chemicals. An existential wellness coach provides powerful alternative ways of thinking about existential distress and existential relief and paints a new picture of wellness that clients are hungry to encounter. They are already primed to address their difficulties in new ways—they are waiting for you!

Existential Wellness Coaching Explained

Our program is also perfect for anyone wanting to make sense of these matters for themselves. There is a self-coaching component to the program that participants will welcome as they endeavor to make sense of their own existential needs, the reasons for their own distress and malaise, and the new practices they may want to put into place in their own lives. This program will help you address your own existential challenges.

FAQs

We have included some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) below that may address your queries and provide you with further information about the programme.

If you have any additional questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to let us know. We are always happy to assist and provide support.

A: Existential coaching is a coaching specialty that draws on two traditions, the existential tradition and the coaching tradition. On the one hand, it is a traditional coaching practice, where coach and client work together to identify the client’s goals, co-create plans of action, and monitor those plans. In addition, it is a “step-back” activity, where coach and client step back and look at a client’s whole life, including their understanding of their life purposes and their meaning needs. Here is how Danny van Deurzen-Smith, an existential coach and existential course trainer, describes existential coaching: “Existential Coaches facilitate change for their clients – not a fairytale version, or a one-size-fits-all version – but a deeply personal and philosophical one. We teach clients to claim their complexity, and in doing so empower them to make decisions about how to take ownership of the complicated experience of being a human.” This beautiful marriage of coaching and existential principles empowers clients to finally live the life they had always intended to live, while at the same time helping them meet their real and pressing current challenges.

A: Existential wellness coaching is an expanded version of existential coaching that takes as its starting point that general health and wellness are connected to a person’s life purpose and meaning needs and other existential concerns. Through coaching, a client comes to understand the connection between existential wellness and general wellness and learn strategies that helps him achieve both. An existential wellness coach invites clients to pay attention to all of their wellness needs, needs that might include living a life of purpose, seizing meaning opportunities, achieving cognitive health and emotional wellbeing, and becoming physically fit.

A: Prospective clients do not routinely say to themselves, “I am looking for existential wellness.” That is not how they

speak to themselves—or how they will describe what brought them to see you. But that is likely exactly what they are seeking. Once they learn about your services, they will recognize that what you have to offer is exactly what they need. We will help you describe your practice in a way that is clear and understandable, so that prospective clients instantly recognize that you are the helper they require. In short, clients will seek you out because what you have to offer meets their most pressing needs.

A: Because no program like this has existed before. This program is unique and the only one of its kind. You are on the ground floor of a new profession. Dr. Maisel has been sharing these ideas for thirty years and training coaches who employ these ideas, but this is the first time he has created a comprehensive program that marries vital existential ideas with equally important wellness concepts. You will be among the world’s first existential wellness coaches—and much needed!

A. No, but Noble-Manhattan Coaching has set in place a path to certification that will allow you to achieve certification easily and quickly. This existential wellness coach training program, while not a certification program, connects to all of the resources that Noble-Manhattan has put into place to make certification accessible to you.

A. No. The word “wellness” may suggest a connection to physical health and medical practices, but existential wellness coaching focuses on issues of meaning and purpose and does not involve itself with medical practices.
A. No. None of that is within the scope of practice of an existential wellness coach.
A. No, unless you are also specially trained to provide such information. That is, a given existential wellness coach might also be a trained health coach, physical therapist, energy medicine practitioner, etc., and may make use of those skills and trainings in her work with clients. But without specialized training of that sort, an existential wellness coach does not provide scientific information about the benefits or dangers of particular actions or approaches.
A: No. An existential wellness coach is not trained to provide information on best practices when it comes to health challenges or physical challenges.
A: Yes. Clients may want to discuss their plans for putting a support system into place, one that might include a dietician, a psychotherapist, a physical therapist, an indigenous healer, etc., and existential wellness coaches can certainly help clients think through their choices. In fact, that is an existential wellness coach specialty, helping clients make sense of their important life purpose choices.
A: Yes and no. You are not in a position to make recommendations about best practices. But you are available to hear clients’ concerns and help them map out their plans for navigating health services. An existential wellness coach would not say, “This is your best option.” But she might say, “What are you considering as your options?” and “What criteria might you use in deciding which option to take?” She is there to help as a sounding board, as an inquiring mind, and as a collaborator, but not as a medical expert.
A: Yes, absolutely. Identifying and monitoring wellness goals are exactly what existential wellness coaches do! That is one of your specialties.
A. Yes. Obviously, you do not diagnose or treat mental disorders. That is not your area of expertise or your mandate. But what if a client’s depression, anxious nature, or addictive tendencies are partly or wholly existential in nature, having to do with a felt lack of purpose, a persistent feeling of meaningless, etc.? You are there to help with exactly those sorts of challenges!
A. Yes. Such clients may well have issues that an existential wellness coach might usefully address. A veteran suffering from PTSD who is trying to understand the meaning of his service and the meaning of his wartime actions might well benefit from existential wellness coaching. A college student who has lived for a decade with an ADHD diagnosis, and the medication that accompanied that diagnosis, might well want to map out a healthy life with an existential wellness coach, a life that takes the client’s life purpose and meaning needs into account.
A. What sets us apart is the comprehensive information and unparalleled value derived from the collaboration between Noble Manhattan and Eric Maisel. This program is your exclusive opportunity to access the combined expertise and resources of these two esteemed entities. Join us to harness the wealth of knowledge and experience, setting yourself on the path to becoming an exceptional existential wellness coach.

Will This Qualify You As an International Accredited Coach?

At Noble Manhattan Coaching we recognise that anyone can call themselves a coach. This programme is designed as additional training for those who are already coaches, or those who plan to coach informally or to self-coach.

It is accredited by the – International Authority for Professional Coaching and Mentoring (IAPC&M) but, on its own, it is not deemed sufficient to achieve personal accreditation as a coach by one of the independent coaching organisations, such as the IAPC&M, ICF, AoC, EMCC etc.

Both of our programs with Dr. Eric Maisel, our Creativity Coach Certificate Program and our Existential Wellness Coach Certificate Program, provide certification upon completion of training.

Certification is a significant milestone, valuable credential, and a marker of real accomplishment. We are proud to share that we are authorized as an official training center by the – IAPC&M ( International Authority for Professional Coaching And Mentoring ) are authorized to issue international certificates.

We see certification as a step toward independent coaching practice, where certified coaches increase their ability to coach independently by acquiring additional core competencies and by perhaps furthering their professional careers by garnering accreditation through organizations like the ICF (International Coach Federation), the IAPC&M (International Association for Professional Coaches and Mentors), or some similar organization that accredits practitioner coaches, senior coaches, and master coaches.

Certification is a real milestone and a valuable credential, and we believe it is a significant step on the career path of professional, independent coaching.
